Children’s
Opportunities at St. Chrysostom’s: Church School
The Church School at St.
Chrysostom’s welcomes children age 3 through fifth grade on Sunday mornings
during the 10 AM Christian Formation hour. Beginning Church School at 10 AM allows
children to attend the 9 AM Family Eucharist or the 11 AM service of worship.
The goal of our Church School program is to have fun while learning the
stories of the Bible and the history of the church, and for our children to be
integrated into the whole life of the church community. Our youngest children use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program and meet in the Atrium located downstairs in the Children’s Chapel. Here children, ages 3 to 6, are encouraged to discover God and to explore their faith in an age-appropriate environment that uses storytelling, songs, and manipulatives.
Living the Good
News,
a lectionary-based curriculum (meaning the weekly lesson is drawn from the
readings assigned for the Sunday Eucharist) is used in our first, second and
third grade children’s classrooms.
The senior
grades—fourth and fifth—use the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum (ECC), a
theme-based approach to learning.
