The Choirs

The Choir of St. Chrysostom’s Church

One of Chicago’s premier choral ensembles, the Choir of St. Chrysostom’s Church, is nationally renowned and is made up of Chicago’s finest choral singers. This 16-voice professional choir is known especially for its singing of early music. The Choir’s repertoire spans 15th Century music to recent music commissioned by St. Chrysostom’s for the Choir.

St. Chrysostom’s Singers

This dedicated Choir is composed of volunteer parishioners and community singers who join together to lead service music during the summer months and with The Choir for various services during the Choir Season. The Singers take part in the annual Advent Lessons and Carols, and the Epiphany Lessons and Carols services. A notable feature of this Choir’s repertoire is the annual service of Tenebrae, sung on Wednesday evening of Holy Week. All enthusiastic singers are invited to join this choir.  There is no audition but you must be able to sight-read music. Richard Hoskins began this choir in 1985 as a means of involving parishioners in the musical life of the parish.

The Children’s Choir

So many children have found the Children’s Choir a wonderful vehicle for learning how to sing, read music, and become familiar with the hymns and great choral music of the church. Begun by Richard Hoskins in the 1980s as the Church School began to grow, the Choir has flourished, teaching musical skills to children, providing a warm introduction into parish involvement, and giving them a place in this parish to express themselves. All children from Second Grade through age 12 are welcome to join this Choir. We use the Training Scheme of the Royal School of Church Music, awarding ribbons and medals each year on Chorister Sunday in May.
