At St. Chrysostom’s, liturgical worship is at the heart of who we are as a people of faith. It is a time when our entire parish community gathers as one to celebrate the love of God made manifest in his Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. It inspires and informs everything else we do as a community. All are encouraged to participate fully in our worship services, including Holy Eucharist. Whoever you are and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome to receive the bread and wine made holy.

The Rites of the Church, or sacraments, are outward and visible signs of an inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means by which we receive that grace. Grace is God’s favor towards us, unearned and undeserved. By grace, God forgives our sins, enlightens our minds, stirs our hearts and strengthens our wills. The two great sacraments given by Christ to his Church are Holy Baptism and the Holy Eucharist. In addition, The Episcopal Church recognizes the sacramental nature of other rites, including matrimony, confirmation and ordination.
The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament commanded by Christ for the continual remembrance of his life, death and resurrection until his coming again. The Holy Eucharist is called the Lord’s Supper and Holy Communion. It is also known as the Divine Liturgy, the Mass and the Great Offering. All baptized people and all those seeking a deeper relationship with Christ are invited to receive the Holy Eucharist at St. Chrysostom’s.
Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the church and inheritors of the kingdom of God. The outward and visible sign in baptism is water, in which the person is baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The inward and spiritual grace in baptism is union with Christ in his death and resurrection, birth into God’s family the church, forgiveness of sins and new life in the Holy Spirit. For more information on baptism at St. Chrysostom’s, please visit Children’s Ministries, or contact the church office at info@saintc.org.
In the rite of confirmation, we express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian faith and are ready to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism.
St. Chrysostom’s offers a Youth Confirmation Cohort for 7th to 8th-graders. The group (YCC) meets weekly on Sundays as part of a two-year program geared toward community development and confirmation. A flexible menu of options to participate in the wider faith community is offered, allowing our youth to choose their level of involvement. For more information on confirmation at St. Chrysostom’s, please contact the Rev. Chana Tetzlaff, Associate for Children, Youth and Families at chana@saintc.org.
Those baptized as adults, unless baptized with laying on of hands by a bishop, are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism in the presence of a bishop and to receive the laying on of hands. For more information on confirmation for adults, contact Rev. Dr. Ian Burch, Rector at ian@saintc.org.
Holy Matrimony is Christian marriage, in which two people enter into a lifelong union, make their vows before God and the Church and receive the grace and blessing of God to help them fulfill their vows.
The Episcopal Church requires that at least one of the parties be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the laws of the state and the canons of this church.
