St. Chrysostom’s has a long history of excellent music and musicians. The first choir of men and boys, founded in 1893, was one of the first vested choirs in Chicago. In 1917 the men and boys choir was disbanded, and a mixed-voice adult professional choir took its place. Today’s principal choral ensemble is an auditioned, professional mixed choir of twelve voices, representing some of the finest choral artists in the city of Chicago. With a repertoire spanning five centuries, the choir offers choral leadership nearly every Sunday during the program year, as well as the special services of Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and occasional offerings of choral evensong.
Serving as the volunteer parish choir since 1985, these talented and dedicated parishioners gather once each month to sing alongside the professional choir, as well as each Sunday throughout the summer at the 10:15 am service. All parishioners are invited to join this choir and be part of the worship in this fulfilling ministry.
Founded in 1986, St. Chrysostom’s Children’s Chorister Program offers a first-class musical education to children, while also giving them a place in the worship service. Participants learn to read music, build their vocal skills and sing some of the world’s greatest music in the magnificent setting of St. Chrysostom’s sanctuary.
